Types of Revenue Assurance
There are three primary types of revenue assurance:
- Core revenue assurance – assurance of
the Telco revenue management chain
- Collateral revenue assurance – processes
supporting the core revenue management chain
- Extended revenue assurance – the prevention
of loss due to issues outside the revenue management chain operations.
This includes the maximisation of future revenues.
Core Objectives of Revenue Assurance
The core objectives of any revenue assurance activity are:
- Manage leakage
- Manage risk
- Prevent leakage
Core Revenue Assurance Functions And Disciplines
There are six core revenue assurance disciplines:
- Monitoring
- Baselining – scorecards
- Auditing
- Synchronization
- Investigation
- Correction
It is imperative that business owners be assigned to manage and
report each of these functions.
Revenue Management Chain
The only way to truly identify all revenue loss risk points and
the points at which assurance must be implemented is to map the
core functions of the end to end revenue management chain.
Every section of this chain must have a management owner, who is
responsible for monitoring and reporting any revenue loss risk or
issue.
Naturally, there will be certain areas of the business where spheres
of operational responsibility overlap with revenue assurance responsibility,
which can result in management turf wars. This is typical of any
BI related program, and illustrates how critical it is that ownership
boundaries are clearly understood and accepted.
